YOUR WEEKLY WRITING SPRINT

Your Weekly Writing Sprint is a gently-guided writing sprint where writers at any level can hone their craft while building creative community. Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award winner Erik Patterson will get you writing through original fiction and journaling prompts.

We meet on Zoom and feed off each other’s creative energy as we silently write together.

Sprints are held every Wednesday 6-8 p.m. & every Sunday 12-2 p.m. (PST)

What Sprinters Are Saying

“During yesterday’s Sunday Sprints, the prompts led me to unexpected places. I came up with a book idea. I discovered I’m more hopeful about the future than I thought. And getting into the flow of writing opened my eyes to a new structure for a play that needs revising. All this in just two hours!”

“Erik! I wrote the outline of a screenplay this week. Based on something that fell out of me in last Sunday’s session. This has NEVER happened to me before. Ordering Final Draft for my computer!”

“Writers AND non-writers: I can’t recommend this enough. Like many of us creatives in quarantine, I’ve been feeling such a dearth of any creative energy while also dismissing the importance of self-care. I’m so glad I was able to join Erik Patterson for his Sunday Sprints. I am not a writer and am not working on any writing projects, but on a whim I decided to use Sunday Sprints as an excuse to block out 2 hours all to myself. I loved the no-stress, no-pressure guided session to simply WRITE. And I wrote! Longhand, in cursive. I was surprised by how much poured out, based on the questions posed. My hand started to cramp but I wasn’t stopping. As suggested, I played music with each prompt (and now want to incorporate more themed music while in work mode). Erik even included a stretch/dance break! I still had a few lines to jot down even after Erik officially ended our time together. As I wrote the last words—and this caught me completely off guard—I found myself weeping. The whole experience was so personal and cathartic.”

“It's so wonderful and such a highlight of the week. It's so hard to find the head space during these times to write for myself. I love the gentle prodding and the supportive community.”

“Sunday Sprints has given me an inspiring space to explore what I want to write about. It has led me to start writing something I had no idea I wanted to write. And sometimes, I use the time to connect with others by writing letters--a lost art that is really satisfying to revive during this pandemic. I highly recommend this for all kinds of writing, from letters to journaling to book/play/screenwriting.”

“Sunday sprints keeps me focused on journaling and healing through writing! The experience is the greatest gift EVER and I highly recommend this format for ANYONE and EVERYONE who just want s to write. I’m not a pro but Erik makes ALL levels feel so welcome!!! Thank you.”

“I love Sunday Spirits. Such fun to be a part of and I always feel so very much taken care of by Erik. If you haven't tried yet, you should.”

“Sunday Sprints is fantastic! If it did nothing else, which it has done, but more on that in a minute - it got me to put a block of time aside as sacred to write. It is helping me shift perspective, keep going, and write my way out of places I was blocked. Did I mention it’s awesome?!”

“I’m addicted! It’s my weekly brainstorm!”
